Chaos walking by patrick ness5/12/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() I thought it was really cool to get Lee's point of view. The ending definitely made my day (well, and my life pretty much), but I don't want to ignore the fact that the rest of the story is amazing as well.įirst of all, we get to see some beloved old characters––Lee and Wilf! SQUEEEE! YES YES YES. I was just reading along and suddenly:īut I'll put that aside for a moment and try to just talk about the short story itself. Well, all I can say is … My little fangirl heart was not prepared for this story. Or you will like, spontaneously combust or something. … And by that I mean, trust me, do not read this unless you've read Monsters of Men. ![]() Note: If you haven't read the whole trilogy yet, this story is best read after Monsters of Men. Attention Chaos Walking fans! You can read this story as well as "The New World" and "The Wide Wide Sea" by going here! Or see message 15 in the comments below (in fact, that would probably be the better option because it's faster, haha). ![]()

Dead blondes bad mothers5/11/2023 ![]() ![]() He argues that from the earliest treatises of political theory, notably in Aristotleâs notion of man as a political animal, and throughout the history of Western thinking about sovereignty (whether of the king or the state), a notion of sovereignty as power over âlifeâ is implicit. ![]() Taking his cue from Foucaultâs fragmentary analysis of biopolitics, Agamben probes with great breadth, intensity, and acuteness the covert or implicit presence of an idea of biopolitics in the history of traditional political theory. ![]() In Homo Sacer, Agamben aims to connect the problem of pure possibility, potentiality, and power with the problem of political and social ethics in a context where the latter has lost its previous religious, metaphysical, and cultural grounding. ![]() Recently, Agamben has begun to direct his thinking to the constitution of the social and to some concrete, ethico-political conclusions concerning the state of society today, and the place of the individual within it. The work of Giorgio Agamben, one of Italyâs most important and original philosophers, has been based on an uncommon erudition in classical traditions of philosophy and rhetoric, the grammarians of late antiquity, Christian theology, and modern philosophy. ![]()

![]() Modern listeners will be intrigued by the unencumbered life of the pair they make do with coffee, fish from the river, and little else (but of course, when they do need something extra, they don't mind helping themselves to it without recourse to money!) ![]() The facts of how black people were treated in this period give Huck and Jim their license for life on the run. Much has been written about the statement Twain is making about slavery in this book, but it's really secondary to the story. At each stop, Huck engages his talent for mixing fact with bald-faced lies to endlessly get himself out of situations. ![]() Huck and Jim experience life as a series of tableaus as the river sweeps them through small towns on their way South. Huck escapes his civilized life when he arranges his own "murder" and turns back into the backwoods, downriver yokel he started as, and in the process springing a slave, Jim, from bondage. ![]() In The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Mark Twain creates an entertaining adventure of Middle America in the 1800's - afloat on a raft on the Mississippi River. ![]()

Moon by laurann dohner5/11/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() Given the warnings above, I worry a little about the fact that I enjoy this book so much, but…it’s more wholesome than it sounds? In essence, smart and plucky heroine Brandi and cinnamon-roll hero Jason meet cute when Jason-who is, at the time, a large, black wolf-saves Brandi from being hunted and killed by other men who are also, at the time, wolf-shaped. I first listened to Laurann Dohner and Kele Moon’s Claimed in 2021 and have re-listened more than once since then. It is advisable to read the books in order, to get the most enjoyment from the series.
